C2 (6th & 10th December)
Host: Poland
From the 6th to the 10th of December took place in Wroclaw the first mobility with students of the I Care project. However, only three countries were able to fly there due to Covid restrictions: Spain, North Macedonia and Estonia; Finland and Czech Republic joined the meeting virtually one of the days and several activities were planned for them to do on other days.
The Spanish team arrived on the 4th in the evening and some of the Polish parents offered to take them to the hotel. On Sunday, some Polish students took the Spanish team around Wroclaw, which was a great way for students of both countries to get to know each other. In the afternoon, the Estonian team arrived at the hotel.
Every day, Polish students very kindly accompanied the students and teachers from the partner countries from the hotel to the school and back again in the evening. Also, they acted as guides and all the explanations were given in English.
Day 1- The Polish students prepared a tour around school, short ice-breaker activities and a Kahoot called “Do you know Poland?”. In the morning, we had a workshop conducted by The House of Europe in which students and teachers learnt about recycling in the EU. After this, we watch the presentations videos of the schools and cities from all the participant countries and the interactive dictionary. We received a visit from the local TV. After this, the different finalist mascots were presented to the rest of the participant countries to vote which one was selected.
In the afternoon, we were sightseeing around Wroclaw and were able to enjoy the traditional way of lighting the lamp post in the centre.
Day 2 - The Macedonian team arrived in the early morning. In the project it was also stated that on this day, students and teachers would visit a professional studio to record the I Care song but due to Covid, it was not possible so, instead, we decided to record it in the school. Tour around old city centre (learning about the dwarfs, Opera, Forum Muzyki, Renoma, Hala Targowa, Ossolineum, Uniwersytet Wrocławski) In the afternoon, students and teachers visited the museum Hydropolis where they learnt about the history of water, its uses and problems concerning it.
Day 3 - The Polish team prepared a workshop for creating things out of recycling materials. The aim of this workshop was to create objects that then could be “sold” in order to raise money for Polish students who need to finance a very expensive operation. Also, students from each country briefly explained briefly some of the things they do in school related to recycling, reusing or reducing, as well as what was discussed during the Oxford debates. In the afternoon, the Polish team organised a cultural visit around Wroclaw. In the evening the coordinators meeting was held at the hotel to plan the next visits and the evaluation of the mobility.
Day 4 - On Thursday morning, students and teacher were taken on a tour with a guide around the Christmas Market and after, teams were formed in order to carry out a game: each team had to answer some questions about the history of the area and, at the same time, find some of the hidden dwarves around. When we got back to the school, the Polish team had prepared an evaluation Kahoot with questions from the tour as well as all the certificates were handed to each student and teacher participant in this mobility.
In the evening all the teams celebrated the farewell party. Here, we exchanged Christmas gifts which were handmade using recycled materials, we sang Christmas carols and Christmas songs in the different languages and had a Christmas dinner together sharing different dishes from the different countries (organised by the Polish families).
Day 5 - students and teachers visited the exhibition “The fixers” in The Ethnografic Museum on how people used to repair their things in many different ways, instead of just throwing them away and getting new ones. We also did a workshop about reconstruction. Finally, students had the opportunity to buy some souvenirs from Jatki.
During the whole mobility, we learnt about educational systems, languages, culture, and Christmas traditions. The participants had the opportunity to learn about it using all senses, knowledge and experience.
Every day of the mobility all the teachers and students got to learn the most common phrases for the basic communication in all the partners' languages. During the day the teachers motivated the students to use words and phrases they have learned and the result was that the students learnt some words and phrases in other European languages, communicate with native speakers more efficiently, and participate in the development of the glossary actively.
Students and teachers also learnt about educational systems, the languages, each other’s tradition and culture of Christmas and their knowledge about climate changes, strengthen their involvement in recycling and environmental
protection activities.
